Alecia Evette

Hi!

Nice to Meechu.

I’m Alecia.
(It’s pronounced: Uh-lee-see-uh)

I human.

I am constantly trying to make sense of this human experience I’m having.

You too? Omg, hi. It’s hard out here just like…existing. I know you know what I mean.

We’re all going through this collective experience, and yet we are more divided than ever. I believe Boyz II Men said it best: “We don’t even talk anymore. We don’t even know what we argue about.”

I administrate.

I administrate because things needs to get done ahead of schedule, under budget and in a spirit of excellence. Execution is hard work and I happen to enjoy it.

I most recently served as Stage Manager of a new musical showcase concert at Green Room 42; Stage Manager for a 29-hour reading at the Abrons Art Center and Co-Producer for THE ANGEL MAKERS MUSICAL as part of the SHENYCArts 2024 Festival at The Connelly Theatre in New York City which won Best Production of a Musical and Best Score.

I have a Bachelor in Business Administration from Loyola University Chicago and a 12+ year corporate career building teams, crunching numbers and telling stories to attract funding and win new customers. The throughline for everything I do is storytelling— through data, words, and music.

I write.

I write fictional characters for a cultural zeitgeist that no longer practices the art of dialogue in real life.

I’m a big fan of stories about identity, faith, love, being a woman, family dynamics, intersectionality, and disordered eating. I also love historical fiction, rom-coms (where did they go?), and sci-fi/afro futurism.

I spent two dedicated years writing with other magical minds and walked away with an MFA from the NYU Tisch Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program.

I sing.

I am a Mezzo Soprano (C3-E5), and I sing because music allows me to translate emotions that words alone cannot.

I fell in love with music while singing along to Whitney Houston cassette tapes with my grandma. I started singing in public in choirs when I was 9. At 14, my dad gave me a guitar for Valentine’s Day and i’ve been singing in my own little corner (no, literally this) ever since.

I listened to everything from Billie Holiday to N’SYNC. I’d say that range lives in my vocal cords. My voice is a bit of a Nomad, but the best word I can find for where it feels most at home is ‘Jazz’.

So happy you’re here.
